DIRECTOR OF SECURITY AND FIRE SAFETY

The Director of Security and Fire Safety reports to the Executive Director of Facilities Support Services.  The primary responsibilities of this position include the following:

1. Oversee, coordinate and direct the work of all security personnel of the College to ensure that security practices and procedures are appropriate a
and uniform.

2. Promulgate College-wide procedures for the maintenance of a system for vehicle registration.

3. Recommend for publication, regulations and procedures for control of traffic and parking, improvement of security and fire safety, and response to emergencies.  Upon approval and adoption of those recommendations, ensure their implementation, including any necessary training.

4. Ensure compliance with all State and County laws and policies, concerning for safety and fire prevention.  Confirm the correction of all reported violations.  Establish a program of required fire evacuation drills as mandated by the State Education Law and the ordinances of Suffolk County.

5. Maintain liaison with the Suffolk County Police Department and other law enforcement and investigative agencies.  Maintain liaison with the several fire departments servicing the College at its multiple locations, and with the Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.  File the annual report with the State on compliance with fire safety regulation.

6. Act as liaison with the Executive Deans on each campus on procedural changes and the initiation  of new policies concerning security and fire safety.  Coordinate the collection and forwarding to SUNY of the annual campus security report.

7. Arrange for and coordinate the required annual training and the bi-annual licensing of security officers.

8. Perform management effectiveness studies and serve as a resource to the campuses on the preparation of the annual budget for the security function.

9. Provide expert advice to security personnel and campus administrations on crime prevention, compliance with the Code of Conduct, the NYS penal code, and the investigation of criminal activity.

10.   All other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director.
