Director of Career Services

The Director of Career Services reports to the Dean of Students and coordinates the delivery of career and employment services to students, including individual counseling and group presentations to assist students to write an effective resume, improve interviewing techniques, develop job search skills, explore strengths and transferable skills, and follow through on job leads to acquire employment; assists graduating students to use the computerized job matching program (Job Connection).  Primary duties are as follows:

  1. Manages the day-to-day operation of the Career Services Office.
  2. Supervises and evaluates counselors, clerical staff, and student staff assigned to the Career Services Office; recommends candidates for vacant positions to the Dean of Students.
  3. Counsels and advises students, with special attention to students who need assistance with clarifying their career goals.
  4. Coordinates and presents programs which enhance students’ job search skills, introduce them to career possibilities and employment opportunities, etc.
  5. Consults with colleagues who ae assisting students with career exploration and employment planning.
  6. Works cooperatively with colleagues in the Student Affairs Division to assure that policies and procedures are carried out, and that Division goals are achieved.
  7. Evaluates the needs of students and employers in terms of employment, and implements programs and services to meet those needs.
  8. Assures that job opportunities for students are publicized on a timely basis.
  9. Coordinates the referral and placement process of all students on the Federal Work Study Program; trains and consults with supervisors of student workers.
  10. Coordinates on-campus recruitment activities for employers.
  11. Meets with prospective graduates who may need employment counseling and serves as a liaison to local employers.
  12. Sets annual goals and assures that financial aid services are carried out in accordance with institutional priorities and division goals.
  13. Proposes an annual budget and monitors budget expenditures.
  14. Prepares an annual report describing goals, activities, outcomes, and highlights.
  15. Represents the Ammerman Campus at professional conferences and meetings related to career services.
  16. Advises and counsels students, when appropriate.
  17. Serves on College-wide and campus committees.
