DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS

 

The Director of Athletics on the Western Campus reports to the Dean of Student Services and is responsible for intercollegiate athletics and coordinating an intramural program.  Primary responsibilities are as follows:

1. Sets annual goals to assure that athletic programs are consistent with institutional priorities and prepares annual report of activities supporting goals.

2. Maintain active communication with all campus and college offices in order to promote the integration of athletics into the broader educational mission of the college.

3. Schedules all athletic events and secures officials, transportation, and personnel necessary for program implementation.

4. Prepares contracts, brochures, intramural and staff handbooks, and arranges award dinners to recognize the achievements of student-athletes, coaches and staff.

5. Monitor compliance with all national, regional, and college rules and regulations regarding the athletic program.

6. Certifies students’ athletic eligibility in accordance with the current National Junior College Athletic Association and Suffolk County Community College regulations.

7. Certifies students’ athletic eligibility in accordance with the current National Junior College Athletic Association and Suffolk County Community regulations.

8. Recruits, supervises and evaluates coaching personnel and part-time support staff; recommends candidates for vacant positions to the Dean of Student Services.

9. Prepares, recommends and administers the annual SCC Association budget for athletics in consultation with the Dean of Student Services and serves as a member of the Campus Association Advisory Council.

10. Supervises the purchasing, issuing and care of SCC Association-funded uniforms, equipment and supplies.

11. Represents the Western Campus at professional conferences and meetings related to athletics, intramurals, tournaments and related activities.

12. Work closely with the appropriate campus personnel to insure the maintenance and proper utilization of all athletic facilities.

13. Works with the Field House and Events Manager, Vice President – Marketing & Public Affairs, campus newspaper, county high schools, and other community organizations to enhance the support for athletics, disseminate information, recruit students and promote a positive image.

14. Supervises the maintenance of SCC Association vehicles and schedules their use by athletic teams, coaches and student organizations.

15. Ongoing research for program development through study, seminars, workshops and clinics.

16. Serves on college and campus committees.

17. Assumes other appropriate duties assigned by the Dean of Student Services.
