COLLEGE DIRECTOR NETWORKING &TELECOMMUNICATIONS

The College Director reports to the Executive Director of Computer Information Systems. The Director will assist in planning voice, data, and video networks for the College and manage development and utilization. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

1. Assist the Assistant Vice President with planning and, budgeting by providing recommendations and design specifications as requested;

2. Manage and optimize the college’s telecommunication and network resources (including switches, routers, servers, voice messaging, call attendant systems, leased lines and equipment) encouraging effective use, prioritization and reductions in costs

3. Work with the Associate Dean of Facilities, outside contractors and campus maintenance departments on implementing telecommunication and network facilities, and coordinating moves, installations and other changes to equipment as necessary.

4. Supervise tie Facilities Administrator, Switchboard Supervisor and any additional staff as assigned to support telecommunications and network services.

5. Chair the workgroups on Networking and Hardware and Software Standards, coordinating network planning and development and providing for a seamless interconnection among enterprise data warehouse and network servers and the end users desktop equipment ; participate in workgroups on college information systems and data warehousing.

6. Install and coordinate the administration and maintenance of network backbone servers and network based software.

7. Provide a system to respond to problem calls from network and telecommunications users.

8. Assist end user departments with the purchase, installation and maintenance of workgroup and lab LANs and manage connection of these systems to the college's backbone; provide recommendations on desktop equipment and software to end users per standards agreed upon by the workgroup.

9. Coordinate training program for telecommunications and network systems.

10. Provide planning assistance and support for the college's distance learning and video teleconferencing efforts.

11. Work with Information Technology staff providing networking assistance.

12. Perform special assignments and projects as directed by the Assistant Vice President.
