COLLEGE-WIDE DIRECTOR OF ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

The College-wide Director of English As A Second Language (ESL) is afull-time (12 month) administrative position reporting directly to the Dean of Faculty of the Western Campus, and coordinating with the Executive Director of Academic Support Services in the implementation of ESL non-credit course offerings at the Ammerman, Western and Eastern Campuses. The ESL Director will also coordinate with the Offices of Instruction on the Ammerman, Western and Eastern Campuses to implement a singlecollege-wide program of ESL Developmental (EP) courses. The work schedule shall include some evenings. The College-wide Director of English as a Second Language shall:

1. Design, develop, implement and monitor the instructional and administrative aspects of credit ESL courses, including their objectives, content, methodology and scheduling on the three campuses.

2. Design, develop, implement, and monitor non-credit ESL courses and coordinate these functions with College administrators and staff on the three campuses.

3. Oversee the maintenance of ESL program quality standards College-wide, including evaluation of curriculum and instruction, development and implementation of outcomes assessment measures, preparation of descriptive materials, development of syllabi, etc.

4. Approve students for completion of non-credit and credit ESL course requirements.

5. Recruit, select, schedule ESL faculty and staff in collaboration with the Offices of Instruction on all campuses.

6. Review and select textbooks and appropriate instructional materials and equipment to be used in the ESL classes and laboratory college-wide.

7. Establish and maintain effective communication with Campus and College administrators and faculty so that the ESL program is carried out efficiently and effectively, and appropriately articulated with regular degree and certificate programs.

8. Prepare brochures and other printed materials designed to recruit ESL students.

9. Develop ESL Budget to incorporate the needs of the Program on the three campuses.

10. Develop and enhance community relations by promoting and publicizing the ESL program and by cooperating and meeting with community groups.

11. Coordinate the college-wide recruitment, orientation, testing, and placement of new students in ESL courses with the Offices of Instruction and Student Services on all campuses.
