College Dean of Faculty
Position Description
The College Dean of Faculty reports to the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and is responsible for college-wide implementation of the following academic functions:
- supervising and directing the college associate deans and serving as chair of the Academic Affairs Council;
- providing academic leadership, in collaboration with the college associate deans, for planning and creating a college master schedule that adheres to the Guidelines for Academic Scheduling;
- reviewing, in collaboration with the campus deans, the evaluation and retention or dismissal process for all instructional faculty, library faculty, and staff;
- developing, in collaboration with the College Associate Dean for Professional Development, professional-development activities and specific programs for various disciplines, including the annual fall opening-day faculty meeting, as well as other events;
- reviewing with the Associate Vice President for Campus Affairs a table for contractual and discretionary reassigned time; viewing the annual reports of goals accomplished and making recommendations to the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs on the future allocation of discretionary reassigned time for each individual;
- coordinating and facilitating, in collaboration with the Director of Grants, the development of academic grants;
- working with academic chairs to coordinate college-wide academic discipline committees;
- supporting and encouraging the infusion of technology into the teaching and learning process;
- serving on college academic committees, including curriculum and academic standards;
- collaborating with the Office of Student Affairs on development and retention initiatives and serving on the Enrollment Management Committee and Student Affairs Council;
- supervising the implementation of a program for student assessment of faculty;
- developing and administering a college budget to support individual areas of responsibility;
- developing initiatives that support the strategic plan, vision, and mission of the college;
- performing other related duties as assigned by the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs.
Qualifications:
- A doctoral degree is preferred; a master's degree is required.
- Substantial record of incremental administrative experience in higher education, preferably at the community college level.
- Expertise in curriculum development and program assessment as well as in academic policy review and implementation across the college.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to function in a complex higher education environment.
