College Associate Dean of Students
Position Description

The College Associate Dean of Students provides college-wide leadership and promotes programmatic effectiveness within the areas of functional responsibility outlined in the position description.  The College Associate Dean of Students serves as the College Student Conduct Officer with responsibility for the administration, implementation, and enforcement of the Student Code of Conduct and the Student Conduct Process at the college.  The College Associate Dean is expected to work cooperatively with college and campus personnel and function within a team environment.  The individual will communicate with a wide range of academic and student-affairs units to manage, coordinate, monitor, and assess the implementation of college projects and initiatives within the functional responsibilities of the position.  The College Associate Dean has managerial, supervisory, and evaluative responsibilities for respective personnel and programs.  Annual performance review of College Associate Dean to be conducted by the College Dean of Students on or before June 30 of each academic year.

The Associate Dean of Students reports to the College Dean of Students, and specific responsibilities include:

  1. serving as the designated college official responsible for the investigation of sexual harassment or discrimination complaints made by members of the college community and for determining if there is sufficient cause for an investigatory hearing to be held to determine whether sexual harassment or discrimination has taken place;

 

  1. establishing and overseeing an electronic recordkeeping system of student services files (e.g., discipline, refunds and confidential) so information can be shared by appropriate student affairs personnel;
  1. conducting training sessions with the college community on relevant topics such as handling disruptive students, understanding the Code of Conduct, etc.;

 

  1. coordinating college compliance with government regulations affecting students (e.g., Drug Free Workplace, Campus Security Act, immunization requirements, Americans with Disabilities, etc.);
  1. overseeing college-wide projects, services, or initiatives as determined by the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs;

 

  1. developing and administering a college budget to support his or her areas of responsibility;
  1. developing initiatives that support the strategic plan, mission, and vision of the college;

 

  1. performing other duties as assigned by the College Dean of Students.

Qualifications: 

Minimum educational qualifications include a master’s degree in counseling, student personnel, or in a related field; doctorate preferred.  Relevant administrative experience in higher education is required.
