College Associate Dean for Professional Development
Position Description
The College Associate Dean provides college-wide leadership and promotes programmatic effectiveness within the areas of functional responsibility outlined in the position description. The College Associate Dean is expected to work cooperatively with college and campus personnel and function within a team environment. The individual will communicate with a wide range of academic and student-affairs units to manage, coordinate, monitor, and assess the implementation of college projects and initiatives within the functional responsibilities of the position. The College Associate Dean has managerial, supervisory, and evaluative responsibilities for respective personnel and programs. Annual performance review of College Associate Dean to be conducted by the College Dean of Faculty on or before June 30 of each academic year.
The Associate Dean for Professional Development reports to the College Dean of Faculty, and specific responsibilities include:
1. implementing and assessing comprehensive professional-development programs for faculty, staff, and administrators;
2. administering the development of training courses for faculty that focus on the infusion of technology in academic programs and disciplines;
3. initiating learning opportunities for faculty such as master teacher seminars and other programs;
4. developing and implementing a leadership institute;
5. developing and implementing an orientation program for newly hired full-time and adjunct faculty;
6. coordinating programs and activities of the Teaching/Learning Centers;
7. preparing an annual training-program schedule for faculty;
8. developing and implementing the annual opening-day program for faculty and staff;
9. developing and administering a college budget to support individual areas of responsibility;
10. developing initiatives that support the strategic plan, vision, and mission of the college;
11. assisting with the development of a college-wide mentoring program;
12. performing other duties as assigned by the College Dean of Faculty.
Qualifications:
Minimum of a master’s degree required (a doctorate preferred); experience in higher education administration; extensive experience in training and professional development; and strong organizational and communication skills.
Demonstrated evidence of the ability to work effectively with faculty and other members of a diverse college community to develop and implement professional development programs is necessary.
