College Associate Dean for Planning and College Master Scheduling
Position Description
The College Associate Dean provides college-wide leadership and promotes programmatic effectiveness within the areas of functional responsibility outlined in the position description. The College Associate Dean is expected to work cooperatively with college and campus personnel and function within a team environment. The individual will communicate with a wide range of academic and student-affairs units to manage, coordinate, monitor, and assess the implementation of college projects and initiatives within the functional responsibilities of the position. The College Associate Dean has managerial, supervisory, and evaluative responsibilities for respective personnel and programs. Annual performance review of College Associate Dean to be conducted by the College Dean of Faculty on or before June 30 of each academic year.
The College Associate Dean for Planning and College Master Scheduling reports to the College Dean of Faculty, and specific responsibilities include:
1. developing the master schedule with campus deans and academic chairs in accordance with the “Requirements for Master Schedule Development and Management” document for approval by the College Dean of Faculty;
2. serving as chair of the Master Schedule Process Committee;
3. striving to meet enrollment and budgetary goals in cooperation with appropriate college administrative personnel and academic chairs;
4. assuring that the master schedule is student centered and developed according to a review of projected enrollment, prior enrollment history, campus and college coordination, and day, evening, weekend, and distance education offerings;
5. working with campus deans and academic chairs to assure a well-distributed and balanced schedule that maximizes instructional space and includes a full schedule of early morning, Friday, and afternoon classes;
6. coordinating with the College Registrar to implement the technical requirements of the master schedule for web and internal and external printing distribution;
7. ensuring that student schedule conflicts involving programmatic requirements across disciplines and schools are minimized by collaborating with academic chairs as well as with the campus directors of counseling;
8. reviewing and ensuring the accuracy of data entries on the MSOL (e.g., section numbers, time modules, and billing, programmatic, and other codes);
9. assuring compliance with the College Course Cancellation Policy and the Late Registration Policy;
10. coordinating, with appropriate college personnel, a room inventory of classroom space; overseeing maintenance of this inventory to ensure accuracy of data and appropriate classroom space assignment;
11. interfacing with Continuing Education and ESL to coordinate scheduling and classroom space availability;
12. developing and administering a college budget to support individual areas of responsibility;
13. developing initiatives that support the strategic plan, vision, and mission of the college;
14. performing other duties as assigned by the College Dean of Faculty/Executive Associate Dean.
Qualifications:
Master's degree required, doctorate preferred in an area of specialization or in a related field, college administrative experience highly desirable.
