College Associate Dean for Library and Learning Resources
Position Description
This College Associate Dean provides college-wide leadership and promotes programmatic effectiveness within the area of library and learning resources. She or he is expected to work cooperatively with college and campus personnel and function within a team environment. This individual will communicate with a wide range of academic and student-affairs units to manage, coordinate, monitor, and assess the implementation of college projects and initiatives within the area of library and learning resources. The College Associate Dean has managerial, supervisory and evaluative responsibilities for respective personnel and programs. Annual performance review of the College Associate Dean will be conducted by the College Dean of Faculty on or before June 30 of each academic year.
This individual reports to the Ammerman Campus Executive Dean as Campus Head Librarian as well as to the College Dean of Faculty as College Associate Dean, and specific duties include the following:
- supervision of the Ammerman Campus library professional and support staff;
- supervision and administration of all campus library and media services, print, electronic and media collections, equipment, facilities, and operations;
- recruitment, selection, supervision, and evaluation of campus library personnel in conjunction with the Campus Executive Dean;
- development and management of the campus library budget and coordination of college-wide library budget requests and allocations among the three campus libraries;
- development and implementation of college-wide library planning, policies, and procedures in collaboration with the other Campus Head Librarians;
- supervision of the Central Library Technical Services Office for the purposes of centralized acquisitions and cataloguing of instructional materials purchased for all campus libraries, as well as the acquisition of online databases for use by all three campus libraries;
- recruitment, selection, supervision, and evaluation of personnel assigned to the Central Library Technical Services Office in consultation with the Campus Head Librarians and the College Dean of Faculty;
- coordination of the development of a college-wide instructional program for the teaching of library and information-literacy skills as outlined in the SUNY general education requirement in information management;
- for campus and college-wide outcomes-assessment purposes, coordination of the collection of statistics relating to the use of instructional materials, services, and equipment and preparation of studies and reports relating to the library sections of campus and college program reviews, accreditation self-studies, and annual campus and college reports;
- coordination of college-wide library overload assignments;
- initiation and coordination of professional-development programs for college-wide library faculty;
- development of initiatives that support the strategic plan, vision, and mission of the college;
- other duties as assigned by the College Dean of Faculty.
Qualifications
Minimum of a master’s degree in library science with five or more years’ professional experience in an academic library.
