College Associate Dean for General Education
Position Description

The College Associate Dean provides college-wide leadership and promotes programmatic effectiveness within the areas of functional responsibility outlined in the position description.  The College Associate Dean is expected to work cooperatively with college and campus personnel and function within a team environment.  The individual will communicate with a wide range of academic and student-affairs units to manage, coordinate, monitor, and assess the implementation of college projects and initiatives within the functional responsibilities of the position.  The College Associate Dean has managerial, supervisory, and evaluative responsibilities for respective personnel and programs.  Annual performance review of College Associate Dean to be conducted by the College Dean of Faculty on or before June 30 of each academic year.

The Associate Dean for General Education reports to the College Dean of Faculty, and specific responsibilities include:

1. developing and implementing college initiatives for general education and professional programs;

2. developing and implementing college initiatives for writing across the curriculum and critical thinking;

3. working with appropriate academic administrators to develop innovative, instructional college programs for summer and intersession;

4. working with appropriate academic and student-affairs administrators to plan, develop, and implement a cost-effective weekend college program;

5. working with appropriate college personnel to implement international-studies and study-abroad opportunities;

6. developing and implementing student learning communities for appropriate academic and professional programs;

7. coordinating, with the College Dean of Faculty, the instructional design and renovation of instructional space to optimize the learning environment for students;

8. working with the College Dean of Faculty to develop and implement a program for student assessment of faculty;

9. working with academic chairs to monitor enrollment patterns and revise curricula to respond to changing demographic and industry needs;

10. assisting academic chairs with the development, implementation, and performance of discipline-specific advisory committee

11. developing and administering a college budget to support individual areas of responsibility;

12. developing initiatives that support the strategic plan, vision, and mission of the college;

13. performing other duties as assigned by the College Dean of Faculty.

 

Qualifications:

Master's degree required, doctorate preferred in an area of specialization or in a related field, college administrative experience highly desirable.
