College Associate Dean for Curriculum and Assessment
Position Description

The College Associate Dean provides college-wide leadership and promotes programmatic effectiveness within the areas of functional responsibility outlined in the position description.  The College Associate Dean is expected to work cooperatively with college and campus personnel and function within a team environment.  The individual will communicate with a wide range of academic and student-affairs units to manage, coordinate, monitor and assess the implementation of college projects and initiatives within the functional responsibilities of the position.  The College Associate Dean has managerial, supervisory, and evaluative responsibilities for respective personnel and programs.  Annual performance review of College Associate Dean to be conducted by the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs on or before June 30 of each academic year.

The Associate Dean for Curriculum and Assessment reports to the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, and specific responsibilities include:

1. working with academic departments in the development of new courses or programs and the review of existing programs;

2. working with academic departments in the development of college-wide course content, with learning outcomes written in behavioral language;

3. coordinating and implementing program-review and outcomes-assessment procedures and processes with the Associate Dean for Institutional Effectiveness;

4. reviewing general education courses in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Institutional Effectiveness while adhering to the guidelines established by the State University of New York;

5. coordinating college responses to SUNY-mandated assessmentin the major (i.e., program reviews) and in general education and preparing reports for submission to the SUNY Office of the Provost;

6. reviewing all Course Table Update forms;

7. providing initial preparation of new or revised program announcements, proposals, and other information required for submission to SUNY and to SED;

8. coordinating with academic chairs to ensure the accuracy of academic content in the college catalog;

9. coordinating the schedule for program reviews and general education assessments (GEAR);

10. leading the SUNY general education campus-based and strengthened campus-based assessment process to assure compliance with the SCCC SUNY-approved plan and with GEAR guidelines;

11. identifying and approving qualified external reviewers for each program review;

12. developing and administering a college budget to support individual areas of responsibility;

13. developing initiatives that support the strategic plan, vision, and mission of the college;

14. performing other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs.

Qualifications:

Master's degree required, doctorate preferred in an area of specialization or in a related field, college administrative experience highly desirable.
