College Dean of Students
The College Dean of Students reports to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and is responsible for college-wide implementation of the following Student Affairs functions:
1. Coordinates, under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, college-wide implementation of Student Affairs policies, and chairs the College Student Affairs Council.
2. Assesses all Student Services programs and oversee the Student Services Program Review process.
3. Offers training programs for instructional faculty college-wide on
relevant topics, such as techniques for handling disruptive student behavior, understanding the Code of Conduct, etc.
4. Serves as the designated college official responsible for the investigation of sexual harassment or discrimination complaints made by students and for determining if there is sufficient cause for an investigatory hearing to be held to determine whether sexual harassment or discrimination has taken place.
5. Serves as the convener of campus administrators in those areas
where there is no college-wide administrator (e.g., Disability Services, Campus Activities, Career Services) in order to discuss issues of mutual interest and to coordinate college policy.
6. Administers student requests for exceptions to the refund policy.
7. Acts as the liaison for the Associate Vice President with food services (Ammerman and Grant) and the bookstore.
8. Coordinates with the campus Associate Deans student recognition
opportunities, including the Academic All-USA Teams, Chancellor’s
Awards and Who’s Who in American Junior Colleges.
9. Coordinates internal college and external scholarship programs including Jack Kent Cooke, Coca Cola Scholarships, etc.
10. Manages Student Services overload including the announcement of available opportunities and the assignment of qualified faculty on a college-wide basis.
11. Coordinates college-wide professional development for Student Services.
12. Serves as the College Judicial Officer with responsibility for the
implementation and enforcement of the Student Code of Conduct and the
Student Judicial Process at the college.
13. Serves as the college official responsible for the implementation of
the college medical withdrawal policy.
14. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Associate Vice
President for Student Affairs.
